Japan Travel Checklist

Here is a checklist for a trip to Japan:

  1. Passport: Ensure that your passport is valid and has at least six months' validity beyond your travel dates.

  2. Visa: American citizens do not need a visa for Japan if going for less than 90 days.

  3. Flights: Book your flights to and from Japan.

  4. Accommodation: Reserve your accommodation in advance. Japan has a variety of options, including hotels, hostels, and traditional ryokans.

  5. Transportation: Plan how you'll get around Japan. The country has an extensive rail network, and the Japan Rail Pass is a cost-effective option for long-distance travel.

  6. Money: Carry yen with you, as some places may not accept credit cards. You can exchange currency at airports or banks.

  7. Travel insurance: Consider purchasing travel insurance to cover medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and other unexpected events.

  8. Electronics: Bring an adapter and voltage converter if needed, as Japan uses a different electrical system than some countries.

  9. Clothing: Check the weather forecast and pack appropriate clothing for the season. Comfortable shoes are essential, as there may be a lot of walking involved.

  10. Language: Learn some basic Japanese phrases, or bring a translation app with you. While English is spoken in some places, not everyone will speak it.

  11. Culture: Familiarize yourself with Japanese customs and etiquette. For example, it's customary to bow when greeting someone and there are chopstick etiquette rules.

By preparing adequately and being aware of Japanese customs and culture, you can have a safe and enjoyable trip to Japan.
